FAQ

Q: Are the products you deliver certified organic?
A: We are even better than that! AVC (Apple Valley Creamery) is one of only three cow dairies in the state of Pennsylvania to be Animal Welfare Approved (AWA). AVC cares about responsible, sustainable, and holistic farming practices that work in harmony with nature. This means that they care about both the welfare of animals and the environment.

AWA certification guarantees that AVC meets the highest standards for sustainable farming practices and animal care, so you can feel good about drinking our milk! If you want to learn more about the AWA standards, visit their website found at: www.animalwelfareapproved.org. If you want to learn more about the way Apple Valley Creamery runs their farm, please visit their "Farming Practices" page.

Q: I know most organic milk has a very long shelf life. Why is this?
A: Because organic milk is often not produced locally, it has to travel further to reach you. In order to make sure that the milk doesn't go bad before it can be sold, organic milk is often Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) pasteurized. This type of pasteurization will lengthen the shelf life, but it also sacrifices the quality and taste of the milk. Because our milk is produced and delivered locally, we can offer a fresher product using minimal, low temperature pasteurization, in order to preserve the great taste and quality of our milk.

Q: What does Apple Valley Creamery feed their cows?

A: Over 90% of their cows' diet comes from grass and non-GMO crops grown on their farm. They use a rotational grazing system for their animals so they can naturally harvest much of the grass they eat. They are not fed any animal by-products or any man-made additives such as Rumensin or Monensin. Visit their "Farming Practices" page for more details.

Q: Does AVC use rBST or other synthetic growth hormones on their cows?
A: No, they do not give their cows any of these artificial hormones. They are committed to working with natural processes to produce our milk. Not using these hormones also puts less stress on the cows; we believe happier cows give better quality milk.

Q: Are the cows given antibiotics?
A: AVC does not feed antibiotics to their animals or use antibiotics for sickness prevention. In rare instances, they do use antibiotics to treat a sick animal if no other course of action is available. This protocol is allowed and encouraged by the Animal Welfare Approved program standards as part of their holistic standards for animal care.

It is important to understand that the occasional treatment of an animal with antibiotics does not contribute to antibiotic resistance by bacteria. Also, all of the milk from animals treated with antibiotics is not sold until the antibiotics have cleared the animal's system. In fact, AVC has a lab on site where they can test the milk, before they bottle it, to ensure there is no antibiotic residue in the milk and that it is safe to drink.

Q: What is the cost to have home delivery?

A: We have a sliding delivery fee depending on how much you order. Product orders that are over $45.00 are delivered for free. Product orders between $35.01 and $45.00 have a $3.95 delivery fee, and product orders $35.00 or under have a $4.95 delivery fee.

*Product order amount does not include beef products, bottle deposits or delivery fee.*

Q: What if I am not in your home delivery area?
A. We try to service everyone immediately but if we are not in your area today we probably will be shortly as we receive requests in new areas very often. Often times we only need 3-5 new customers in any given area to start servicing that area.

Q: How do bottle deposits work?
A: We charge a $2 refundable bottle deposit on any size glass bottle you receive. This deposit is automatically added to your bill. Every time you return a glass bottle to us you will see a $2 per bottle credit on your bill.

Q: How do I pay for my home delivery bill?
A: We accept Discover, Visa, or Mastercard for payment. After delivery, your credit/debit card will be billed automatically. Then, in 1-3 business days, you will receive an invoice via email.

Q: What if I am not home when you deliver?
A: Almost all of our customers are not home at delivery time. If you are not going to be home, simply leave out your cooler/milkbox where we can place your delivery. If the temperature is expected to go over 40°F that day, please leave ice or ice packs in your cooler/milkbox.

If we arrive and do not find a cooler/milkbox to place your order in, we will leave a cooler bag for your items. The cost is $5.00 per bag; this will be added to your bill. If the temperature is expected to reach over 40°F that day and we do not find ice or ice packs in your cooler/milkbox, or we need to leave a cooler bag, we will leave ice packs in the container at a cost of $2.00 per ice pack. Please understand, that PA state law requires us to leave the product in a container with ice or ice packs if the temperature is expected to be over 40°F.

Q: Do you deliver in bad weather?
A: We will make every effort possible to deliver your order on its regularly scheduled day. Depending on how safe it is to travel, we may make adjustments to your delivery time/day for you to receive your products. This means it may be delivered earlier, later, or even the following day. With proper warning of weather conditions, we may even deliver your products the previous day of your scheduled delivery day. We will always inform you via email of any changes made to your delivery schedule.

Q: Are there any holidays that your business is closed?
A: Christmas Day and New Years Day there will be no deliveries. These days along with any other holidays, we will be announcing when your products will be delivered. At no time will your weekly order not be delivered either the day of, the day before, or the day after the holiday.
